Concept art for main character

When creating a game, you want to create a universe. Something the player can immerse themselves into, and become a part of.
So you want the player to feel something.

The art style you choose is a great way to elicit certain emotions in the player.

Quirky, eerie and disturbing

Even though we want Rusted Treetops to be a game with lots of humor and dark comedy, we want to emphasize the “dark” portion a bit.
We want the player to feel like there’s something that’s not quite right. Something’s off.

We will create that feeling through art, sound and music.

New concept art

Creating good concept art is therefore important in order to set the tone and feel for the 3D modellers.
The style we want to pursue is the eerie, quirky art style of Tim Burton, and what you see here is the beginning of that universe.

Our talented concept artist created our main character, Harold.
Yes, Harold the Squirrel.
It’s a badass name if you think about it.
Think about it….

The results we got back today are very pleasing, and I can’t wait to see how the other characters develop, not to mention how the characters will look fully modelled and textured – and with clothes on.
(Please do not ban us for squirrel nudity).
